Idina Menzel auctions childhood piano for Broader Way foundation
Most people know who Idina Menzel is, and if you haven’t, you’ve either been living under a rock or maybe just haven’t got around to ever checking out “Wicked,” “Glee,” or “Frozen.”
It’s a busy world. Things happen. We understand.
There’s no judgment here.
But what you might not know about Ms. Menzel is that in 2010, she began a foundation with husband Taye Diggs. The foundation, called A Broader Way, aims to help give young girls in urban communities a chance at self expression and creativity through programs that are centered around the arts.
In an effort to raise both awareness and money for her foundation, Menzel has decided to auction off her childhood piano on eBay. The piano holds special memories for Menzel not just because she used it as a kid, but because it was originally given to her by her grandfather (for the sake of accuracy, Menzel’s grandfather gave her mother money to buy the piano for a young Idina when she was a child).
Menzel admits that the piano will always have special meaning to her, but she also believes that putting it up for auction is the right thing to do since its for a great cause.
Below, you can check out a video in which Menzel discusses the Broader Way foundation in New York.
Before we go, if you love “Frozen” and particularly love Idina Menzel’s “Let It Go,” why not take a few minutes out of your day to watch this great YouTube tutorial of how you can actually play the song on the piano?
